A Watershed is an area of land from which all water, sediments and materials drain into the common outlet (i.e. the ocean). Everything that happens to a watershed can affect what ends up in the water. Therefore, as humans, we can become a part of the solution when we understand how we affect our environment.
Healthy watersheds mean clean environments for the wildlife that inhabit them and clean water for you, your children and your grand-children to enjoy for generations to come.
Adopt Your Watershed, part of Adopt your Neighborhood program, reconnects individuals with their surrounding natural environment, particularly focusing on water quality issues. Each neighborhood is asked to adopt their local watershed to remove and prevent litter and pollution, rebuild the natural habitat, and develop a high level of understanding of the interconnectivity among a healthy watershed, a healthy community, healthy economy, and a healthy body.
